General Questions

How can I turn my room into one that is accessible as a "public room"?

If you want to create a room that is accessible to the public with no need of password etc. , you'll first need to create the room and place the items of your desire into it.  The items can be pictures or other information that you feel will be of interest to others. When done, click on the ADMIN settings icon (the alien looking head near TOP of page).

On this new screen there's an option for Public Display near the bottom of the settings      page.

Just enter a short description that best describes your content,  select an appropriate
category (option is right below description option) and then SAVE.  That's it.

If you later decide to make the room "PRIVATE" again, all you need to do is delete your description and save those changes.  A blank description says to the program "do not place this room on public display".

What's the maximum number of records (mini-apps) I can include in my private room?

30 is the maximum number of individual mini-app records you can add to a singular room. However note that depending on a particular mini-app, the number of entries it may permit is usually unlimited.  For example - the Personal Diary and WeightLoss Program apps allow unlimited entries yet its use is only counted as 1 (one) record (because the additional entries are a 'subset' of that particular app) .

The Upload Photo mini-app on the other hand is one for one, meaning, each photo uploaded is counted as one record.  There are no 'subsets' of this app.

Now if you use the
Side By Side photo mini-app, you'll be able to upload TWO photos within one record.  After you've played with a number of mini-apps you'll become comfortable with the theory as to what makes one record etc.

Most mini-apps are of the unlimited variety.

Can I somehow link one or more rooms together if I find that 30 records is not enough?

Yes you may.  An Administrator may utilize the Admin Settings to access a feature that will allow them to enter in a 'related room number' and it's password into the current room's properties.  When this is done, a link will appear at the bottom of the current room.  When this link is clicked, the user will be automatically sent to the new location.

Therefore, Room # 150 could link to Room # 222 which could link to Room # 1199.  If wanted, you could close the 'loop' by causing Room # 1199 to link 'back to' Room # 150.

Note: Each additional room carries it's own separate fees and is treated as a normal private room.

I keep hearing about the Administrator Settings Page , what is it and how do I get there?

When you enter a room as an administrator (there's a main button specifically for this),  you'll need to enter an Admin Code (which is usually different than the room's Guest Password).  If you successfully enter the room in this mode you'll notice the occurrence of the Admin Icon.

       This is the Admin Icon.

This icon appears in two places.  First it appears at the top left of the room's page and clicking it will allow you access to the entire room's global settings.  Global settings affect the room as a whole. Things like:

  • How long to rent the room?
  • Can visitors add new records to your room?
  • Changing Password(s) and Login settings.
  • Can a link be set up to access a room extension?

There's a wealth of such useful settings you can make but are not required in order to run the program effectively.  A lot of these settings are for the "Power User" or simply for the person who realizes that some of these features make the functionality exactly what they want it to be.

The second occurrence of this icon is to the left of each record that you create.  Clicking this button here will allow you access to features related to this particular record only. Features such as :

  • Is this record for Public Viewing?
  • Should we hide this record's Guest Comments from other Guests?
  • Add a Special Occasion picture to the record.
  • Prevent Adding, Deleting, Editing of individual records.

I noticed that Passwords and Authorization codes can have embedded spaces in them. I've never seen that before.  Is there any advantage or disadvantage in allowing this?

You're absolutely right.  We know of no other security minded locations that will allow "spaces" in a password.  By doing so, we immediately defeat a number of  hacker type tools that automatically don't assume that "spaces" can be used.  It also encourages real phrases to be used as passwords.  For example : "Mary had 3 little lambs".  It is generally accepted that the best passwords contain both text and numbers.  Making up a ridiculous phrase like the one just mentioned would  "generally never" come up as a guess by automated code breaking methodologies.

The only disadvantage is, you may forget your phrase.

I'm still struggling with the difference between the use of my Password and Administrator's Code.

There are two distinct levels of access to each private room.  The Administrator's Code is the "higher or stronger level" of the two.  This code gives you "ownership" rights over that room which means you can do things that a normal password would not allow.  The primary advantage of entering a room as an administrator is you'll have access to the Administrators Settings Page which provides all kinds of special settings that one can make to a room.

Passwords are something that can be handed out to anyone you please.  If you have a room and want to have a small number of select visitors, you can give them your password.  They'll see nearly everything you can as an administrator but not all.

If you don't plan to invite anyone into your room, your password and admin code can be the same.

Sending a Self Destruct Email

Q.

A.

I notice that more and more people are using your unique "Self Destruct Email", how can I quickly learn how to do this?

Our "Self Destruct Email" feature is fast becoming one of MyPrivateRoom's most used and fun activities.  With it, you can send confidential information to a recipient and have the email destroy itself in a matter of seconds after reading (remember "Mission Impossible") .

We have loads of lawyers and political types using our service on a repeated basis.  If you want to convey a secure message but never be held responsible for that message, this is it!

  • You must first have your own room (free trials are available).   Create new room

  • You must enter your room as an administrator.  Enter existing room

  • In each room is a "Room 2 Room Email" module (mini app).

  • You should create a new email message, then checkout the -

Extreme Additional Protection Options near the bottom left of the window.

  • Select a desired number of seconds to "wait" from the drop down option box.  This wait period is the time your readers have to review your memo. Make sure you give them enough time to read it.  Maximum amount of time is 60 seconds.

Save your document. After saving, you may then send the document to another room member or to an outside regular email account. There is a button and a link on this same page to perform the task(s) just described.

When sending to an outside email account, you do not have to use your "real" email address as the sender.  Therefore the email can be completely anonymous.

Photo Gallery

Q.

A.

I tried to save (to disk) some photos from one of my rooms and notice that I can not do that. Why ?

MyPrivateRoom.com wanted to provide a place where people could display their pictures but "prevent" others from unauthorized copying.  This is seen as an advantage for most of our users.  Too often people complain that they put something up on the web only to have it copied and spread to other locations that the original owner of the image was not aware of.

Although our protection is not 100% foolproof, it will dramatically cut down on instances of "photo theft".

Q.

A.

Can I upload images that are not in JPEG (*.jpg) format?

Sorry, our system is designed to work only with JPEG format.  We have a certain amount of control over that format and for your protection and ours, JPEG seems to work best.  There are tons of utility programs that will convert almost any format into another.  Often such utilities can be obtained free or at very little cost. Search the web.

User Logins and Passwords

Q.

A.

I love your Login and Password central storage. I have so many places I need to login to it has
become a real nightmare.  Do you recommend we print this list of critical information?

Yes,  we believe that it would be wise to print and store this list in a very safe and private location.  Due to a hundred different reasons, you may not be able to contact MyPrivateRoom.com and if you have not committed a particular account to memory or have access to it somewhere else, you may be permanently locked out of the place you need to go.
